Police use Pokémon GO Charizard to try and catch ’em all
Here’s one to add to the ever-growing list of real-life weirdness happening around Pokémon GO.
The Manchester, New Hampshire Police Department claimed in a Facebook post on Saturday that a Charizard, a rare Pokémon GO character, had been observed in its booking area.
“Attention all area Pokemon Go players: We have recently found out that there is a Charizard in our booking area,” reads the post, “With the Charizard being such a rare character, we are only inviting a specific number of people. If your name appears on the following list you are one of the lucky ones. Come down to the station to capture Charizard. Hurry before the Charizard leaves!”
The police invited the people listed to come in and capture the monster.
The “lucky ones” on the list? The department’s 500 most wanted criminals.
Rare Pokémon characters have drawn huge crowds in cities around the globe. This week, players swarmed Central Park when a super-rare Vaporeon appeared.
The frenzied scene was captured on video and posted to Twitter on Friday
The Manchester NH Police post has gone viral. As of this morning, it has caught more than 27,000 “likes.”
None of the lucky 500 have yet shown up to claim their monster prize.
