Bad Sex Award 2016 : The International language of bad sex

Erri De Luca has won the 24th annual Literary Review Bad Sex Award for “The Day Before Happiness” for passages including “My body was her gearstick”.

The award was announced at a lavish ceremony on Wednesday 30 November at the appropriately named In & Out Club in St James’s Square, London.

De Luca can add the Bad Sex Award to the countless honors he’s already won, including, in 2013, the European Prize for Literature.

To quote the judges:

The winning entry is a reminder that, even in the wake of Brexit, Bad Sex knows no borders.

Indeed.

The competition was fierce this year. My personal favorite runner-up is from “The Butcher’s Hook”, by former Blue Peter presenter Janet Ellis :

‘I am pinned like wet washing with his peg’
